Getting Started
Ensure your headset is properly connected.
Open the BabelEar app and go to Settings.
Enter a valid API key from one of the supported providers: OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Sarvam AI. The app will detect the provider automatically.
Select your output language from the "Translate to" dropdown.
Tap "Start Listening" to begin translation.
Supported Providers
OpenAI — Supports a wide range of languages via OpenAI's Realtime API.
Google Gemini — Supports a wide range of languages via Gemini's Live audio API.
Sarvam AI — Specialised support for 11 Indian languages: Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. New Sarvam AI accounts receive ₹1,000 in free credits, which supports 20+ hours of live translation. Sign up at sarvam.ai.
Common Issues
App not translating: Check your internet connection and verify your API key is valid in Settings.
No audio output: Verify your headset is connected and selected as the audio output device.
Slow or inaccurate translations: Try switching providers. For Indian languages, Sarvam AI gives good results at the moment. For other languages, OpenAI or Gemini are recommended.
FAQs
Where do I enter my API key?
Navigate to Settings in the app. You can add keys from OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Sarvam AI. The app detects the provider automatically and activates the correct one.
Do I need a subscription?
No. BabelEar operates on a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. You use your own API keys directly — we don't charge for usage.
Does BabelEar store my conversations?
No. Conversations are never stored or transmitted to our servers.
